Our story
A countryside home for travellers.

Hotel Stafholt sits on a small rise overlooking wide green fields in the heart of Borgarfjörður, 25 km from Borgarnes and about an hour's drive from Reykjavík. The hotel grew out of the outbuildings of the farm Stafholtsveggir 2, and that countryside feeling has stayed with it ever since.
Stafholt's location in the heart of Borgarfjörður — and right in the middle of West Iceland — puts many of the region's best-loved places within easy reach: Deildartunguhver hot spring (12 km), Reykholt (20 km), Hraunfossar & Barnafoss (55 km), the Víðgelmir lava cave (8 km), Grábrók crater (30 km), Glanni waterfall (25 km), Húsafell and Into the Glacier on Langjökull (70 km), and the Snæfellsnes peninsula (120 km).
Today Stafholt is a family-run countryside hotel and a home for travellers. We welcome guests on their way through West Iceland and those who want to slow down and stay a while: birdwatchers, cyclists, writers, and anyone looking for a long view, a deep quiet and a soft bed.
Our hope is simple — that you arrive a little tired, sleep deeply, eat well, and leave a little gentler than you came.

A note from us
"Be inspired by astonishing nature, heartwarming hospitality and a place of healing and wellness."

Northern lights
Dark skies, dancing light.
Stafholt sits well away from city light. From September to April, clear nights often bring the aurora — sometimes faint, sometimes filling the sky. We'll happily point you to the best viewing spots.
